Plant 2A is one of the most energy-efficient thermal generation plants in the world. Expansion of the 1970's vintage George M. Sullivan Plant 2 uses GE LM6000 combustion turbine technology and produce 120 megawatts in a 2x1 combined-cycle configuration.

Project: Moving Utility Lines Underground

ML&P replaces existing overhead distribution lines with underground lines each construction season as required by the Municipality of Anchorage. The Title 21 ordinance requires utilities to annually spend two percent of their average city retail revenues to fund these projects. ML&P passes the surcharge on to all customers because burying lines underground is a general cost of operations.

Project: LED Street Light Conversion

Project: LED Street Light Conversion

ML&P owns and maintain about 4000 cobra head HPS street lights and has bid out for LED equivalents based on the Municipal Solid-State Street Lighting Consortium Model Specifications which is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy. Replacing HPS street lights with LED street lights provides better lighting and is accompanied by energy savings as well as reduction in the cost of maintenance. ML&P plans to begin to convert street lights to LED in 2017, with completion over the next few years.
