ML&P announces decrease in COPA rate and 28% decrease in the average monthly bill due to Plant 2A Municipal Light & Power’s 2018 second quarter filing with the Regulatory Commission of Alaska will decrease the Cost of Power Adjustment rate to $0.01024 per kWh, effective April 1, 2018 (including prior period adjustments). With this filing, ML&P’s COPA rate will be the lowest it has been since 2012. ML&P’s COPA rate has declined since 2017 due to fuel cost reductions associated with highly-efficient units at Plant 2A. This decrease has resulted in 28 percent savings or $36.25 on the overall monthly bill for the average ML&P residential customer consuming 550 kWh per month. (Calculation based on second quarter 2017 average ML&P residential customer bill and second quarter 2018 average ML&P residential customer bill.) Municipal Light & Power encourages customers to recognize utility scams and take steps to protect their accounts Municipal Light & Power encourages its customers to be aware of utility scams by always verifying their account information with an ML&P Customer Service representative. Customers receiving a phone call or email threatening power shut-off unless their credit card information is provided, should not engage with the scammer. Mayor asks voters to authorize sale of Municipal Light & Power on April 2018 Ballot Mayor Ethan Berkowitz announced that he will ask the Anchorage Assembly to place a proposition on the April 2018 municipal ballot allowing voters to authorize the sale of ML&P to Chugach Electric Association, Inc. ML&P Warns Customers of Recent Utility Scam Municipal Light & Power warns customers to be aware of a recent scam reported by a customer. In the scam, customers are provided an 800 toll-free phone number to call in payment to avoid a disconnection or to receive a discount on their bill. Power Restored to East Anchorage ML&P Customers All customers affected in this afternoon’s Midtown power outage have been restored to power.
